Enjoying signature Margaritas at Cape Santa Maria, Bahamas with my husband.
I've been a dedicated fan of margaritas for as long as I can remember - it's positively salsa-ish. I get a beat to my feet and feel like dancing. But I know drinking contributes to my health issue. For the past 4 years, my balance has become a constant challenge. It's not hugely debilitating, but on uneven terrain, I topple over. I have hearing loss, and although tests have shown my balance is okay, this is clearly not accurate. Drinking exacerbates my problem and I should decline, boring as that is!
When I met Nadia Brydon in London she said: "Once you start drinking green smoothies, you won't want to drink wines and margaritas and any of the other alcohols you like to drink. It just won't attract you anymore."
The odd thing is - she's right. The pull for a sip is simply not there anymore.
On the infrequent days when I have not been able to blend up a green drink for myself because of travel or work commitments, I have come home and the idea of a sip is astonishingly strong. As soon as I blend up a green drink, all those thoughts of tangy margaritas, wine or beer, just fly out the window.
I've read that smoking addictions, drug & crack addictions, and obesity issues are all helped by green smoothies - simply by getting the best nutrients into your body. For me, the propensity to enjoy, like and go for an alcoholic drink is big. I have known this for a long time, and often wonder whether I inherited my father's genes of alcoholism. I am fascinated with the how of this - how does this work that when I drink green smoothies, I no longer desire to drink alcohol?
